I photographed a wedding reception at Kingswood Golf & Country Club in Surrey, capturing a relaxed mix of natural moments, couple portraits, family groups, speeches and the first dance. My approach is unobtrusive and documentary-led, allowing the evening to flow naturally while making sure the important people and moments are properly covered.
Wedding Reception Photography at Kingswood Golf & Country Club
The reception gave me plenty of opportunities to photograph the day naturally, from guests enjoying themselves and relaxed group photographs through to the speeches and first dance. I also took some time with the couple for a few portraits around the venue, keeping everything simple and relaxed rather than turning the evening into a long photoshoot.
Relaxed Portraits and Group Photographs
Even with a documentary approach, I always make time for the photographs that matter to the couple and their families. At Kingswood Golf & Country Club I photographed a mixture of relaxed couple portraits and group photographs, keeping the direction straightforward so everyone could get back to enjoying the reception without unnecessary waiting around.
Speeches and Candid Moments
The speeches were a great part of the reception to photograph, with plenty of natural reactions from the couple and their guests. These are often some of my favourite moments to capture because nothing needs to be staged. I simply photograph the laughter, emotion and interaction as it happens.
First Dance at Kingswood Golf & Country Club
The first dance was another lovely part of the evening to capture, followed by guests joining the dance floor and the reception moving into the party. I photograph these moments naturally, keeping the focus on the atmosphere and the people rather than interrupting what is happening.
My Documentary Approach to Wedding Receptions
My approach to wedding photography is relaxed, natural and unobtrusive. I want couples to enjoy their day without feeling as though they are constantly being directed for photographs. At Kingswood Golf & Country Club, that meant capturing the reception as it unfolded while still making time for the important portraits, family groups and key moments throughout the evening.
