Camera Shy? How to Feel Relaxed in Your Wedding Photos

A lot of couples tell me the same thing before their wedding:

“We hate having our photograph taken.”

That is completely normal.

You do not need to know how to pose, where to look or what to do with your hands. In fact, the less you think about the camera, the more natural your photographs will usually feel.

My approach is relaxed and documentary-led, so most of the day is photographed as it happens. I am looking for the real moments, reactions, laughter and emotion rather than constantly stopping the day to set things up.

You do not need to perform for the camera

Wedding photography should not feel like a photoshoot.

For most of the day, you can simply enjoy your family, friends and celebrations while I blend into the background and photograph what is happening around you.

That means less pressure, less self-consciousness and photographs that feel much more like you.

What about couple portraits?

I still photograph relaxed portraits of the two of you, but I keep them simple and natural.

I will give you a little direction when needed, but there is no need for stiff posing or forced smiles. Often the best photographs come from walking, talking, laughing and simply spending a few quiet minutes together away from the crowd.

Family group photographs can still be relaxed

Documentary wedding photography does not mean avoiding group photographs.

If there are important family combinations you would like, I will organise them efficiently and keep the process relaxed so you are not standing around for ages.

You get the important family photographs without losing the natural feel of the day.

The moments you do not see

Some of the photographs couples love most are the moments they did not even know were happening.

A parent wiping away a tear. Friends laughing during the speeches. A quick glance across the room. Children playing. Guests reacting to something you missed.

These small, unscripted moments are a huge part of how I photograph weddings because together they tell the real story of the day.

Natural wedding photography across Surrey

If you are camera shy and want wedding photography that feels relaxed rather than staged, my approach is designed to let you enjoy the day without worrying about the camera.

I photograph weddings throughout Surrey, including Epsom, Guildford, Reigate and Ripley, as well as London and the South East.

Planning a smaller or more intimate wedding?

If you are planning a smaller celebration and do not need full-day coverage, I also offer a dedicated micro wedding photography package for shorter and more intimate weddings.

Relaxed wedding photography without the pressure

You do not need to feel confident in front of the camera to have natural wedding photographs.

My job is to make the photography feel easy, keep things relaxed and let you enjoy your wedding day while I capture the moments that matter.
